This week Ecolab was named to the Dow Jones Sustainability (DJSI) World Index, a list of the world’s leading sustainability companies. The company also was named to the DJSI North America Index. Nalco had previously been on both lists; this is the first year that Ecolab has been included.
Created by the investor community in 1999 to evaluate large companies based on economic, environmental and social criteria, the Dow Jones Sustainability Indexes are among the most widely regarded benchmarks of corporate sustainability leadership.
Ecolab was one of 41 companies added to the World index, which includes just 340 of the largest companies globally. Among the other companies added to the World Index were U.S.-based Microsoft, Hewlitt-Packard, Target, Canadian National Railway, Enbridge of Canada and Hennes & Mauritz AB of Sweden.
“We are pleased to be recognized for the work we are doing to manage our company sustainably,” said Chairman and CEO Doug Baker. Being named to the Dow Jones Sustainability Index lends credibility to our efforts.”
A number of Ecolab customers also are on the DJSI World Index. Among them are Statoil ASA, Sasol LTD, Unilever, ArcelorMittal, Sodexo, Alcoa, MeadWestvaco, PepsiCo, Rio Tinto and Intel.
“As customers such as these and other stakeholders place increasing importance on sustainability performance, Ecolab’s standing on the DJSI strengthens our brand and reputation as a corporate sustainability leader,” said Emilio Tenuta, vice president, Sustainability. “It underscores our alignment with our customers’ sustainability goals.”
The annual DJSI World Index is based on a thorough analysis of corporate economic, environmental and social performance, assessing issues such as corporate governance, risk management, branding, climate-change mitigation, supply chain standards and labor practices.More information on the Dow Jones Sustainability Indexes is available here.
